The Label

Explained

Does it matter the orientation of the baseball bat's label? Yes! Some people use the phrase “Hit with the label up,”or"Hit with the label facing you." What does this actually mean? We place the label on the "face grain" or the weaker part of the bat for Ash bats. The strength in an ash bat is on the edge grain. So, if you look at the label with the face grain facing you, you will be contacting the baseball through the hitting zone on the edge grain. You should take note of where you are actually making contact. It may require that you rotate the bat slightly in your hands so the ball is making contact on the edge grain. For maple and birch bats, the strength is on the "face grain". The weaker part is the edge grain, opposite of ash. At Z Stick, we rotate the label for maple and birch bats so that you are looking at the edge grain and making contact with the ball on the face grain. Our Z Stick pros make it easy! No matter the type of wood bat you get from us, just look at the label and make sure it is pointing toward the sky through the hitting zone.
